With all the bruhaha created over the latest political posturing between the US and Iran, many people are forgetting that Iran has actually been a pretty cool place to travel for a long time.

There are a few things to remember though.

For starters, getting a visa to Iran just got a little more difficult for US and UK citizens. Some are reporting that on the spot transit visas are no longer being issued to travelers with passports from those countries as they were before.

The US State Department also still has a travel warning in place for Iran. Now, remember that the UK and US both like to use their travel warnings as a political tool so you should generally take them with a grain of salt, but they are something you should still take into consideration too.

In the case of Iran, there is a real political crisis going on and that does have effects for many travelers.

For instance, for those of use who love travel tech, there could be some issues. If you show up with a laptop, GPS and Sat Phone, and Customs does a search on you, questions WILL be asked. You probably will miss your connecting transport too because questions take time!

By all means, take the gear you want, but be aware that it could cause a few problems. And for God sake, make sure your gear is insured.

Even after you get into the country, using this type of gear will draw attention and you will probably have to explain yourself many times. The chances of your gear being confiscated is a lot higher than many other places.

This is just the beauty of being a tech loving adventurer!
