GPS COMPACTFLASH CARD W/PC ADAPTOR FOR WINDOWS BY AMBICOM

A cheap option if you want GPS functionality when you are traveling is to get a GPS card that plugs straight into your laptop.

It seems like an easy fix, but there are a few things to think about before you go down that path.

For starters, what type of traveling are you planning on doing?

If you are going to be reasonably well set up with equipment and have a nice area to open up your laptop, then the card might be fine. An example of this might be if you are traveling by car or doing some 4WDing. In that situation, you are more likely to have an area in your car where you can keep your computer without having to pack it away to keep moving.

On the other hand, if you are hiking with a pack, then it may not be such a good option. Getting your laptop out and turning it on every time you want to take a GPS coordinate is a pain . Cards that slot into your laptop also tend to get caught on things like pack straps etc. In this kind of scenario, a hand held GPS is a far better way to go.

Deciding which style of GPS device to go with should be a factor of what type of traveling you do.

Identify what you are likely to be doing and the coice should be pretty obvious.
